Our Tahoe City Home is optimally situated in the quiet neighborhood of the Highlands receiving loads of sunlight along with plenty of privacy and shade from large well-established trees, in a beautiful, well-maintained setting. It has a large fenced-in backyard for additional privacy and is pet friendly.
Enjoy easy access to beaches, local schools, Cross Country & Mountain Bike trails and a Community Center. 3090 Martin is well situated for anyone who yearns to enjoy the mountains and the lake. Hiking trails are just two blocks away and Tahoe City and the Lake Forest Coast Guard boat launch and park are nearby. Alpine Meadow, Squaw Valley USA, Homewood and Northstar ski resorts are approx. 8 miles near. Plus there are many fine restaurants and shops located along the North Shore and in Tahoe City.
Originally constructed as a single-story 3-bedroom 1-bath ranch, it has been completely renovated to add a partial second floor. The spacious great room is bright and airy, with a large window in front, natural lighting from skylights and patio doors that provide additional light along with easy access to rear deck and spa. A pellet stove provides both heat and ambiance on cold winter days.
Downstairs, off the great room, is a spacious den/office/family room loaded with custom bookshelves, built-in desks, and custom built media center, fully wired for cable, telephone, and Internet service. Directly across the hall is a large well-appointed bathroom.
Perhaps the most unique and welcome features of the home are the two master suites, one downstairs and one up. These are truly amazing, far more than you will find anywhere else. Each suite is oversized with a full walk-in closet and spacious luxurious bathroom. Each has its own private deck area with peek views of the lake. A third bedroom is located upstairs which can sleep two people and downstairs in the den is a sleeper sofa which can accommodate two people as well.
The large south-facing rear deck is stained, natural cedar constructed with no visible nails or screws and provides ample room for relaxing or entertaining. The large spa has been meticulously maintained and is perfect for après ski relaxing or a sublime morning soak.
The exterior, deck, and interior have been freshly painted and stained and there is new flooring throughout. In addition there is high-efficiency zoned heating system with central humidifiers along with a high-capacity energy-efficient water heater. With its exceptional use of space it is truly built for comfort, convenience, and relaxation. The home has been lovingly maintained and is offered turn-key.
At the time of the renovation one of the bays in the garage was converted into a large laundry room and pantry, with plenty of cabinet space, counter space, and large washer and dryer. Approximately one-third of the garage bay remains, available for mountain toy storage. The remaining garage bay has cabinets along one wall for extra storage space. The driveway slopes gently down from street level providing easy access and plenty of off-street parking, essential in the wintertime! Martin Drive is well maintained and regularly plowed during snowfall.

LIVING AT 3090 MARTIN DRIVE TAHOE CITY, CA
We bought our house at 3090 Martin Drive in the fall of 2000 as an upgrade from owning a condo in The Villas since 1991. Our criteria at that time included being walkable / bikeable to/from Tahoe City and closeness to the Burton Creek woods and trail areas. We fell in love with the house immediately upon viewing as it had the openness, adequacy of natural light and the large deck and backyard that would enable entertaining our large family and friends and pets. The plan at the time of purchase was to eventually make this our retirement home and permanently move from our primary residence in Reno.
Over the course of the next 15 years, our personal circumstances changed and the desirability of permanently relocating to Tahoe City was ruled out. During that 15 years we did much entertaining of our 5 grand kids and 15+ sisters and brothers in law as many of them visited us from the Mid-West. It was not unusual to sleep 12 to 15 people during ski season. The two large Master Bedroom suites also accommodated air mattresses and sleeper sofas. One of our first renovations during the first 2 years of owning the house was to remove a wall nearest the stairs and greatly expand the Family Room / Home office space. We both worked “from home” when not traveling and situations allowed.
We never differentiated from loving being in the house during any season. The Fall / Shoulder season is totally awesome with great weather for outdoor hiking and easy availability of dining options. Winter was mostly dedicated to skiing (both cross country and downhill) with many visitors. Spring comes much later and is breathtaking with the many blooms and differing varieties of trees. Summer also entailed dealing with more tourists (ie traffic issues) and visitors but the highlight of summer was many many lunches and dinners on the deck. Lazy afternoons gazing at our peek of the lake and nights in the hot tub viewing the stars.
The Highlands neighborhood offers many attractions such as access to the trails for hiking and biking. There is a reservoir less than a mile walk away east off of Polaris Road that is a favorite playground for hikers, bikers and DOGS!! We went there almost daily with our Lab when possible. She would remind us if we forgot. During winter the Cross Country Ski Community Center is walkable and also offers biking trails. The 7-11 at Dollar Point is an 8 minute walk away which is fantastic if you need something quick and don’t want the hassle of driving into Tahoe City. The Lake Forest loop is less than a mile away and offers access to the lake for boats as well as a good biking loop. Many of the other small roads off of the Lake Forest Loop offer easy launching of kayaks.
The Highlands Homeowners Association (annual fee of $25) provides access to a dumpster for yard clean up once or twice per year and sends out very informative quarterly newsletters to keep us all informed (especially good for second home owners.)
